Overview
The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test required for admission to many graduate schools in the United States and other countries. It is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Test Structure
The GRE General Test consists of three main sections:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Analytical Writing
Test Duration
The total testing time for the GRE General Test is about 3 hours and 45 minutes, broken down as follows:

Test Formats

The GRE General Test scores are valid for five years and are reported as follows:
- Verbal Reasoning: 130–170, in 1-point increments
- Quantitative Reasoning: 130–170, in 1-point increments
- Analytical Writing: 0–6, in half-point increments
Test Dates and Registration
The GRE General Test is offered year-round at test centers worldwide. Registration can be done online through the ETS website. Test takers can send their scores to up to four graduate institutions for free.
