The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized exam used by business schools to assess an applicant’s qualifications for graduate-level study in business and management. The GMAT exam measures verbal, mathematical, analytical writing, and integrated reasoning skills.

GMAT Exam Structure

The GMAT exam consists of four sections:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA): One 30-minute essay question
  • Integrated Reasoning (IR): 12 questions, 30 minutes
  • Quantitative Reasoning: 31 questions, 62 minutes
  • Verbal Reasoning: 36 questions, 65 minutes

GMAT Exam Validity and Score Reporting

GMAT scores are valid for five years from the date of the exam. Test takers can send their GMAT scores to up to five business schools for free within 48 hours of taking the exam. Additional score reports can be sent for a fee.

GMAT Exam Retake Policy

Test takers can retake the GMAT exam once every 16 calendar days, but no more than five times within a 12-month period and no more than eight times total. The best GMAT score is kept on record and reported to business schools.
