Overview of the Cambridge English: First (FCE) Exam
The Cambridge English: First (FCE) exam, also known as the First Certificate in English (FCE), is an upper-intermediate level qualification that demonstrates your ability to use English for work, study, and travel. It is accepted by thousands of businesses and educational institutions worldwide.
Exam Format
The FCE exam consists of four papers:
- Reading and Use of English: 75 minutes, 7 parts, 40% of total marks
- Writing: 80 minutes, 2 parts, 20% of total marks
- Listening: 40 minutes, 4 parts, 20% of total marks
- Speaking: 14 minutes per pair of candidates, 4 parts, 20% of total marks

Results and Scoring
FCE results are reported on the Cambridge English Scale, with scores between 140 and 190. Candidates also receive a grade (A, B, C, Level B1) and a graphical display of their performance in each skill (Exceptional, Good, Borderline, Weak).
