CCMC Exam Overview

The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) offers the Certified Case Manager (CCM) credential, which is the oldest, largest, and most widely recognized case manager certification in the United States. The CCM is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the CCM certification exam, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a current, active, and unrestricted licensure or certification in a health or human services discipline that within its scope of practice allows the professional to conduct an assessment independently as a case manager; or
  • Hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree in social work, nursing, or another health or human services field that promotes the physical, psychosocial, and/or vocational well-being of the persons being served.

In addition, applicants must meet the following employment experience criteria:

  • 12 months of full-time case management employment experience; or
  • 24 months of full-time case management employment experience if the applicant holds a high school diploma or GED.

Exam Format and Content

The CCM exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions, of which 150 are scored and 30 are unscored pretest questions. Candidates have 3 hours to complete the exam. The exam covers the following knowledge domains:

Exam Fees and Scheduling

The CCM exam fee is $425. Candidates can apply for the exam online and, upon approval, schedule their exam through Prometric, the CCMC’s testing partner. Exams are offered year-round at Prometric testing centers worldwide.

Who Should Take the CCM Exam?

The CCM exam is suitable for case managers who:

Exam Day and Results

On the day of the exam, candidates should:
  • Arrive at the Prometric testing center with enough time to spare
