CAT Exam Overview
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national-level management entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission into their postgraduate management programs, including:
- Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP)
- Post Graduate Programme in Food Business Management (PGPFBM)
- Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)
- Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM)

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to appear for CAT:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
- The graduation must be from a recognized institute/university
- Candidates in the final year of their undergraduate program can also apply
- There is no age limit to appear for CAT
Exam Pattern
The CAT exam is conducted in a computer-based test format and consists of three sections:
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
- Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
The total duration of the exam is 2 hours, with each section having a time limit of 40 minutes. The total number of questions is 66, with each section having 22 questions.
Registration Process
To register for CAT, follow these steps:
- Visit the official CAT website during the registration period
- Click on the “New Candidate Registration” button
- Fill in the required personal and educational details
- Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature
- Pay the registration fee online
- Submit the application form
Admit Card
Candidates can download their admit cards from the official CAT website during the specified period. The admit card will contain important details such as:
- Candidate’s name and roll number
- Exam date, time, and venue
- Instructions for the exam day
